FROM COAL TO ART
The History of the Kunstkraftwerk
Where digital art, light, and immersive spaces now captivate audiences, energy was once generated using coal, water, and hard physical labor. To mark the 10th anniversary of the Kunstkraftwerk as a digital art center, the Kunstkraftwerk Leipzig will open the new exhibition “From Coal to Art” on July 1, 2026. The exhibition tour brings the building’s industrial past to life while also showcasing the extraordinary transformation of the former cogeneration plant into an internationally renowned venue for digital art and culture.
